    since the Bunsen burner heats at a specific point with high temperature which can cause breakage of the glass beaker, a wire gauze is used to supply heat uniformly on the beaker.

    Wire gauze distributes heat evenly and therefore the beaker is heated uniformly. If heated at one point it expand unevenly leading it to crack.
