The distance covered is not in the direction of the force applied.
For work to be done, force must make a body move in the it’s direction of application. The weight of water acts downwards in this case while the girl move horizontally.
There is no work done on the Jerry can since there’s no vertical motion which is the direction of its weight
Work is the product of force and distance meved in the direction of force. In this case the force acts perpendicular to the distance covered. The product is therefore zero hence no work done.
Work done = Force × distance in direction of force
Force as a result of weight of bucket and it’s contents acts downwards. In this case no vertical distance is covered. Therefore work done is zero.
Work done is the product of force and distance moved in the direction of the applied force
In carrying the jerry can,one exerts an upward force to hold the jerry can, so it doesn’t fall to the ground. Their is no movement associated with this force. As one walks the motion of the jerry can is horizontal and not vertical. Since the force applied to the jerry can is vertical and the motion is horizontal, you do not do any work.
No movement in the direction of the applied force.
Work is done only when the force applied causes motion in the direction of force. But when the applied force is perpendicular to the to the motion it means that even if the magnitude of force is resolved in the direction of motion,it will be zero. Therefore the product of force and distance moved would be zero work.
Work done is a product of force and distance covered in the direction of the force. In this case the force acts downwards and no distance is covered in the vertical direction leading to no work done.
